PV Foreperson
Sun Light and Power Co. has been in business since 1976 – designing and building solar hot-water, radiant floor and photovoltaic systems. We have built PV systems ranging from 2KW battery back-up residential systems to 100KW grid-tied, three-phase, commercial systems. Come join our team (including 4 NABCEP certified employees and three SEI alums) installing commercial and residential PV systems in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. We’re a Berkeley-based certified green company with a mission “to change the world one roof at a time.”
Specific Qualifications:
o Must have at least 2 years of experience installing Photovoltaic systems, both ground mount and on roofs.
o Must have at least 1 year of experience leading crews in building Photovoltaic systems.
o NABCEP Certified or preparing to take the test preferred.
o Solar Energy International (SEI) and Solar Living Institute (SLI) alumni resumes with less experience are also encouraged to apply.
o Ability to build and troubleshoot an entire system start to finish
o Familiarity with electrical code, especially section 690, conduit fill table, ampacity de-rating tables
o Ability to manage a small to medium sized team (1-8 people) of varying personalities and skill levels.
o Ability to assess crew member ability and assign tasks appropriately, both to maximize efficiency and provide training, depending on the specifics of the job.
o Ability to assess a job: recognize potential problems, bottle neck tasks, length of task times, materials needed, tools needed, engineering issues, electrical issues (both future and pre-existing problems i.e. room for breakers, main upgrades, code violations)
o Familiarity with different roof structures (steel, concrete, wood framing), attachment and waterproofing options.
o Ability to interface with all PV departments in order to prepare and build a job and to solve and report any problems with a job (with an eye towards preventing the repeat of past problems)

o Someone who knows when to ask questions (if you don’t know, ask before doing)
o Someone whom people want to work for: bring out the best in your crew members.
o Diplomacy: Be assertive, possess and promote accountability, communicate well when dealing with clients, crew, peers, and superiors.
o A quick learner with an ability to synthesize different information from different sources
o Adaptability and versatility. These two qualities should apply to any task—whether dealing with people or pipe racks.
o Commitment to excellence and detail. The little things count—we build to last thirty years and the foreperson should be the steward of quality control in the production phase.
NOTE: You may be required to use your own vehicle, and/or travel occasionally to out-of-town installations.

- Technical sales, financial, marketing or solar-related experience a plus
- Computer and Internet skills are a must.
